Support workshop

Bereavement, death and significant physical or cognitive losses are complex subjects to approach with tact and sensitivity.

Yet, no one is a stranger to these realities. Often, when we encounter a bereaved or dying person, we prefer to avoid the subject. In the process, we prevent an incredible opportunity to experience our humanity in all its splendour.

Our team of therapists and volunteers has designed two workshops specifically for the general public, for all those experiencing bereavement, and for all the kind-hearted people accompanying them.

These workshops deal with bereavement in general. They do not address specific personal situations, but resources are offered. Questions and discussions are welcome.

Since we’re confronted with grief almost every day, we approach these topics gently and light-heartedly without avoiding depth or humour.

LIVING A BEREAVEMENT

What is grief? How do we live through a significant loss? That’s the starting point for this training workshop, which demystifies grief, or rather bereavement, to provide us with the tools we need when experiencing it or accompanying others who are going through it. Often a source of discomfort, denial, or silence, grief is a process that enables a bereaved person to start fresh. Those around the bereaved person can contribute to this positive process by understanding the particularities of this tumultuous journey.

For all individuals, bereavement has physical and psychological impacts, and knowing about them helps normalize the experience. Talking about them helps us to cope better.

SUPPORTING A BEREAVED PERSON

People are grieving all around us, in our family, among our colleagues at the office, or in our community. We are close to them, but do we know how to support them through this difficult time? Do we know how to be present without judgment?

This workshop will help you learn how to support and accompany a bereaved person through an introduction to active listening and the helping relationship.
